Koninklijke Philips N.V., known as Philips, is a Dutch consumer electronics manufacturer.

Philips's origins date back to 1891. Since then, the company has held over 64,000 patents and introduced numerous innovations in consumer electronics. Initially, it manufactured light bulbs. In 1939, the first electric shaver, the Philishave, debuted, followed by the cassette tape in 1963. In 1982, Philips, in collaboration with Sony, introduced compact discs and later developed technology for increasing the storage capacity of DVDs.
